The Red Fuze: Interview

Swedish duo The Red Fuze combine Garage Rock and Blues in a seamless mix of 60s/70s influences and modernity. Their sound is raw and gravelly with an overall feel comparative to that of Jack White. Having agreed to an interview, here’s what they have to say about the band’s current position and what’s to come from this exciting new band. If you’re looking for intensity and power, look no further than The Red Fuze.

Where does the name The Red Fuze come from?
The name comes from two crazy dudes from Sweden with ambitions to take over the music scene brick by brick. A fuze to a dynamite that is about to explode is another great way to describe the band name.
How do the two of you know one another? How did the band come about?
Through a bandfinder page online we started talking and through that first conversation we knew that we had something interesting going on. Then it just took us almost one month to write and record our self-titled debut EP which was done on distance because we lived in two separate parts of Sweden.

Which of your songs was the most fun to write? Which is your favourite to perform? Why?
Southern Paradise is kind of special because it’s the first song written by us. We haven't actually played live yet but we have a bunch of songs that we really looking forward to play live for the crowd. Our first US tour is planned for this summer and we are very excited about it!

Can you remember the moment you decided that you wanted to pursue music? What was it that made you choose music?
We’ve always been working towards this goal that we one day will enlighten this world with our music and every step on the road has been a lesson and an experience which has taken us to where we are now. The Red Fuze journey has just started and we're the captains over this ship that will take us as far as possible and nobody can stop us.
Music has never been a choice for us it’s more something that we both are born with and runs in our veins. We have embraced it and built our dreams around music and no matter what level we reach in our music career; music will always be a big part of our lives.

The vocals and guitar are absolutely harmonious and complement each other perfectly. Is this harsh, yet polished, sound something you’d always aimed to create, or was there another direction you’d hoped the music would take?
The truth be told, this is what came out as soon as we started, we never actually sat down and said hey let’s try to make it more like this or that... Of course we have guidelines but this music of ours is so pure and unpolished... It's like kissing your crush for the first time, it's just perfect even though it always can be better and will be better if you keep on kissing.
What do you hope will be the outcome of the band? What path do you think the music itself will take?
We have a strong belief in ourselves and in our music. We want to reach out to as many as possible and then take it from there. The most important thing is to have fun, no rules and just keep on doing our things our way. The music we create together will hopefully live for a long time and beyond ourselves.
And finally, What is your preference: CD, cassette, digital download or vinyl?
Vinyl and cassette is cool but we’re 80's kids so we grew up with listening to CDs. A big dream while growing up was to one day record and release an album in CD format but nowadays almost all music is released digitally so CDs are quite dead...If we should release an album in physical format today, we would probably prefer to release it in the LP format. Haha, everything just goes round and round ;)
